If you have the chance and are going with a few friends, hire a boat with a skipper for the day.

There is nothing quite like sitting on the front deck of a speeding boat, beer in hand, with friends taking in the spectacular views on the way to and from Capri

Do it

Ravello is lovely

Going to Florence, San Gimignano and Pisa in August, can't wait. Driving about in a little Fiat, as it should be done.

If you want it a bit cheaper, you can stay in Salerno and do day trips out to Amalfi, Ravello, etc.

Lovely part of the world.

Re: Amalfi Coast, Italy?
The whole costa Amalfitana from Sorrento to Salerno has hidden gems around every corner (depending on what you’re looking for). A bus trip along the narrow mountainous coast road with will test how tight
you can hold the cheeks of your ass; lunacy but brilliant! Ravello overlooking the bay is worth a trip up the mountain with stunning views. Day trip to Naples for the best pizza in the Spanish quarter (heed usual warnings in a big city for pickpockets – but especially in Naples). Quality of food in majority of restaurants along the coast is high, especially if you are a fish lover. Never have done the ferry trips to Capri or Ischia , but heard they are worth doing if you have the time.

Oh, and we did a day trip to Pompeii. That was a decent trip, well worth it.

Stayed in Amalfi, the hotel was right at the top of the mountain overlooking Amalfi.

Most of the restaurants were decent, the town was great to walk round, we were only there for a week so we didn't go anywhere apart from the town.

Funnily enough, I was talking about going back again yesterday - I'd do a fortnight this time though, and do a bit more sightseeing.
